Ahead of the 2024 election, George, through his Soros Fund Management, pulled off the acquisition of Audacy, granting him massive control over 200 radio stations in 40 markets, allowing him to reach a combined audience over 160 million. Soros purchased $415 million in debt in the company, granting him 40% control.
It’s key here that this was done through George Soros’ hedge fund, not through the OSF. Two years prior, Soros Fund Management took over 18 Hispanic radio stations, including the influential Miami conservative Radio Mambi. Audacy is the second-biggest radio network in the country after iHeart, and broadcasts top conservatives including Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Glenn Beck, and other household names.
Over 25% of ownership came from foreign sources. When such a large percent of ownership will be from foreign sources, the FCC has to determine whether “the public interest will be served by the refusal or revocation of such license.” The national security review can take between 3-6 months, and national security agencies are brought in - but not this time.
