Larry Summers resigns from OpenAI board after emails with Epstein released

Lawrence Summers has announced that he is resigning from OpenAI’s board of directors. This comes after Congress released emails showing that the former Treasury secretary had regularly communicated with Jeffrey Epstein in the late 2010s.

"In line with my announcement to step away from my public commitments, I have also decided to resign from the board of OpenAI. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served, excited about the potential of the company and look forward to following their progress," Summers said.

OpenAI’s board of directors confirmed Summers’ resignation, adding, "We appreciate his many contributions and the perspective he brought to the board," per the New York Times. Summers joined OpenAI’s board in 2023 in the wake of its directors ousting co-founder Sam Altman, who was later reinstated.
