Workers from
big tech are among the largest group of donors to socialist Zohran Mamdani for his New York City mayoral campaign, with a share of workers coming from companies like
Google and
Meta.
Although some tech leaders have worries over the ascent of
Mamdani in the mayoral race, their employees have thrown their support behind the socialist, who has promised to increase taxes on corporations, create government-funded grocery stores, and freeze rents in New York City in an attempt of what Mamdani claims will bring "affordability" to the Big Apple.
Google employees have donated nearly $40,500 to Mamdani's campaign as of July 11, which is more than any other company or organization, according to the
New York Post. $10,500 has come from Meta employees, which ranks seventh on the list of organizations whose employees have donated to the socialist.
