This is not a good-faith effort to manage risk; it is a power grab designed to impose political control over the most transformative technology in human history.
The Trojan Horse of 'AI Ethics'
The campaign for AI regulation is built on a foundation of fear and political opportunism. We are told that without government intervention, AI will unleash unstoppable bias, misinformation, and job displacement. These warnings are then used to justify proposals for new federal agencies, licensing requirements for AI models, and top-down mandates that would give government officials veto power over new innovations.
Let’s be clear about what “AI ethics” often means in practice. It has become a Trojan horse for injecting left-wing ideology directly into the code that will power our future. We have already seen major AI models from Google and other Big Tech firms refuse to generate images of white people, lecture users on progressive talking points, and equate mainstream conservative ideas with hate speech. This is the same impulse that led to the unconstitutional collusion between government agencies and social media companies to suppress conservative speech during the 2020 election. The American AI Initiative, established by President Trump, was designed to accelerate AI development and ensure the United States maintained its strategic advantage by focusing resources on innovation, not on building a new bureaucracy.
The Trump model was simple: get the government out of the way and let American ingenuity flourish. The results speak for themselves. The AI industry saw unprecedented investment and progress during those years. The Biden administration, however, has abandoned this successful model. Instead of trusting entrepreneurs and engineers, they trust bureaucrats and academics to centrally plan the future of technology. It is a philosophy that has failed everywhere it has been tried, and it will fail here.

While Washington is busy debating how to tie down our own innovators, the Chinese Communist Party is pouring state resources into its AI programs with a single-minded focus on surpassing the United States. They are building AI for a single purpose: to strengthen their economy, enhance their military capabilities, and expand their authoritarian surveillance state.
Every regulatory burden we place on American companies is a gift to Beijing. Every delay, every compliance cost, and every mandated ideological filter slows us down while they accelerate. The national security implications are staggering. An America that falls behind in AI is an America that will be vulnerable on the digital and physical battlefield. Our economic competitiveness will erode, and our ability to project strength and defend our interests will be severely diminished.
Conservatives must recognize that this is not a traditional policy debate. It is a critical front in the strategic competition with China. Winning requires speed, agility, and a relentless focus on innovation—the very things that heavy-handed regulation destroys.
The Conservative Path Forward: Permissionless Innovation
The answer is not to ignore the real challenges AI presents. The answer is to meet those challenges with American principles.
