Elon Musk grew visibly irritated during an interview with Don Lemon in which the billionaire head of Tesla, X and SpaceX defended his views on content moderation and diversity.
The interview, which appeared on YouTube on Monday after a planned partnership to put it on the Musk-owned social-media platform X, the former Twitter, was canceled, did touch on business topics but mostly focused on social issues.
Musk and Lemon repeatedly sparred over whether diversity, equity and inclusion efforts would lead to a lowering of standards. When Lemon would challenge Musk for evidence that standards were lowered, he said rebuttals on social media would show that they would. “I think you will find that this is posted to the X platform, that people will reply to it with evidence,” said Musk.
Musk said he was against using DEI to correct against prejudice. “I think we should treat people according to their skills and their integrity and that’s it,” he said.
