30 million Italians sign up for Digital ID system to access services

Italy’s digital ID program has reached the 30 million users milestone. According to Ansa, 10 million accounts were registered in the last year alone.

The government claims that the use of the digital ID has increased all over the country. The digital ID is required to access the Public Administration’s online service (SPID). In 2021 alone, more than half a billion service requests were made using SPID, and about 330 million in the first quarter of this year.

“We have reached in advance the annual goal of diffusion of digital identity foreseen by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan [PNRR] , and we are getting closer and closer to the 2023 target,” said Vittorio Colao, the Minister for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition.
